Year 5 Classes

May Half Term

Sunday 24th May 12 noon – Independent and Scholarship Prep 4 – 60 mins – £35

Summer Dates:

All summer classes will be 2 hours face to face in the classroom and include revision, timed mini-mocks for both NVR and Maths with instant feedback/review and a comparison table will be sent for each class. These classes have been designed to include preparation for both GL and independent exams as children who do independent school preparation almost always get higher GL scores too.

Each class is 2 hours for £60 and they are independent of each other so you can do some or all of them. I would like to request a deposit of £10 per class when booking dates to secure the place and then payment of £50 is due on or before the day of the class.

There will be a pack of books/papers to buy in preparation and they must have these in each class. I will send links for these or you can buy them from me as a pack as long as this is ordered from me before 1st July. I will start a separate WhatsApp group for anyone attending the summer classes as I will also send a comparison table for all of the summer sessions.

Summer 1 – Friday 14th August 10:00 to 12:00

Please note there will also be the usual Sunday class the week before the exam and this is included in the last block payment of the year (Sunday 6th September).

Independent and Scholarship Prep Classes (all classes below are £35 and 60 mins):

These classes are a mixture of medium to difficult questions from national top independent school such as St Pauls Girls, London Consortium etc.

Summer Classes

These will be a mix of problem solving, GL style maths, independent school maths, GL NVR and spatial NVR. There will be no new content this will be consolidation and challenge and they are independent of each other so you can attend some or all of them. All classes below are £35.

I completed my BSc (Hons) in Mathematics at the University of Birmingham in 2000 and qualified to teach up to A level at Warwick University (PGCE Maths). I have been a Head of Maths Faculty, Lead Practitioner, Fast Track Teacher and have worked for many years in a grammar school teaching up to A level (specialising in intervention groups to improve attainment both at GCSE and A Level).

I am passionate about preparing children not only to cope well, but to thrive in a grammar school. My focus for the 11 plus classes is on: 1 hour weekly teaching sessions, short frequent daily practice, tailored feedback and monitoring.

Each face to face and online teaching session will be in Sutton Coldfield for an hour on Sunday in very small classes. This will usually be broken down into an NVR section, a starter maths section of core skills (to be completed for homework) and new skills based on the curriculum for the year ahead (i.e. year 4 work to the year 5 curriculum). In addition to this, pupils will be set 10 minutes daily maths practice (four days per week) and regular NVR practice so that we can build up speed and accuracy over time, this is tailored and I will sometimes suggest extra work depending on their needs. I ask parents to send me a photo of work completed in the maths book by Friday.

Once you have registered for the course your child will need to complete an initial assessment so that we can monitor their progress. Lessons are £35 and paid for in blocks of four weeks (2025). During school holidays I ask that the ten minutes practice per day is continued to ensure the standard and speed are maintained and I offer extra optional classes over the summer of year 5 in the lead up to exams. In order to access the work and get the most out of the lessons children need to know their times tables up to at least 10×10.
